I am overwhelmed and honoured to be awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) and I am so grateful to everyone who supports our work.  It is a special delight that our Charity; Essex Retired Police Dogs Fund (ERPDF), is mentioned in the award citation.  We have helped every Retired Police Dog (RPD) that needed our support. We have awarded over £94,000 towards vet and welfare costs since 2012. 

 

My excellent fellow Trustees, our Patron, Volunteers, Supporters, and Advisors have worked hard (free of charge) to not only look after Essex RPDs, but we have also closely co-operated with other Local RPD Charities to create the Association of Retired Police Dog Charities (established in 2020).  I am also so grateful to Essex Police whose support has been invaluable to ERPDF as an independent charity.

 

There are over 14 Local RPD Charities across the UK covering 25 police force areas, including The Metropolitan Police and City of London Police – with the London Retired Police Dogs Trust (LRPD), and British Transport Police BTP with Railways Dogs Benevolent Fund.  Lancashire RPD Fund is celebrating its 20th Anniversary. Then in 2022 the National Foundation for Retired Service Animals (NFRSA) was launched, and this fine charity welcomes RPDs from all areas who do not have their own Local RPD Charity. 

 

Together we have met the challenge to offer financial help towards vet and welfare costs to ALL Retired Police Dogs across the UK.  Truly the best way to care for Retired Police Dogs has been proven to be by Independent Ethical Charities.  Police Dogs have greatly benefitted society during their working lives and ERPDF along with all our friends will continue to support these exceptional dogs in their retirement.
